Boarders’ bedrooms, in the upper two floors of the main house, are shared by small groups of children of similar age.

A matron is always on call for all children during the school day, and a duty matron sleeps in every night.

At Moffats, boarding is fun for children – there is always something going on. Moffats is a true boarding school, in the traditional sense.

We offer a flexible range of daily, weekly and full boarding services, which cover all the things that parents would normally provide if they were at hand, including medical care, clothing, shoes and, of course, birthday cakes!

Moffats specialises in providing stability and education in a safe and happy environment. Senior staff are accessible at all times, and parents, wherever they are in the world, need feel no further away from their child than the nearest telephone. And we provide an Airport Escort Service, using our own staff, for children who need to travel internationally.

Boarding life wraps itself around the main school, and the quality of life, common spirit of friendship and wide variety of shared interests and activities carry on through every evening and weekend.

Dedicated staff

For the last 20 years, the headmaster’s wife, Alex Daborn, has been responsible for the welfare of children at Moffats.

Because Moffats is relatively small, staff come to know and understand children as individuals.

But Moffats doesn’t aim to replace ‘home’ for children. As Alex Daborn explains: “It’s a slightly different place for each child, a place where the child is content to be and where they can put a root down for a while, but there is always a big place for home - we’re not an alternative or a replacement.”
