Peter Pan at the Oxford Playhouse

A personal contact with the Playhouse Theatre in Oxford has helped us foster strong links with this prestigious theatre, our senior pupils now enjoying annual trips, with more than just watching a performance on offer.

Backstage tour

The Playhouse puts on a show each winter with children in mind, and our first outing, in January of 2005, was to see Peter Pan. The matinée performance was preceded by a tour of the set and backstage, a great opportunity for the pupils to enhance their knowledge of the workings of a theatre. The production itself, combining drama with music, included many children in the cast, and so was a very worthwhile experience for our students. The children were well entertained, but also learnt a lot from the trip.

Sightseeing - colleges and city

Furthermore, we took the opportunity to look round the centre of the city, showing the pupils some of the colleges, including Worcester, where three Engleheart brothers studied (Francis, Julian and Paul), and where we met up with former Moffats pupil Harriet Perry, currently studying Law with French at the college. Paul, and Alex Daborn, who also studied at Oxford, were able to share recollections of their time at Oxford… and perhaps inspire their young charges towards a similar university career!
