A science lesson

We teach children techniques for dealing with coursework tasks and for dealing with exams.

For success, it’s important to approach exams with the right blend of confidence and adrenaline; at Moffats, children have regular practice at exams.

At Moffats, children learn how to present knowledge in writing and orally – skills that last a lifetime.

The Main School

Children can join the main school at any age from seven upwards, and the usual leaving age is 13+.

There is no formal entrance examination. For details of fees etc, see our Bursar’s Office, and if your child has special needs, please call us to discuss how we can help.

Moffats – main school curriculum

Moffats has made a positive choice not to follow the UK’s National Curriculum because we believe that the Common Entrance curriculum is a wider curriculum that serves children better.

Boys and girls at Moffats enjoy stability

Children who remain at Moffats until they are 13 enjoy stability in a familiar community environment at a time of life that can often be challenging.

The curriculum includes: Art, Biology, Chemistry, Classical Civilisations, Computing/Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Current Affairs, English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, Greek, History, Latin, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Religious Studies and Sport.

Individual music lessons and tutoring in other subjects are available as optional extras.

Moffats – a passion for teaching

All teachers at Moffats teach subjects for which they have a personal passion. Children learn to appreciate the intrinsic value and purpose of subjects, not just what they need to know in order to pass exams.

Moffats – encouraging individual learning

At Moffats, children have the freedom to enquire, to investigate, to think flexibly and to solve problems. Sometimes they work individually, sometimes in groups, but always in small, mixed-ability classes in which whole-class teaching is combined with work appropriate to individual children’s abilities.

Moving on from Moffats – choosing the next school

Just as no two children are alike, there are great differences between senior schools. If our advice is asked, we can put at parents' disposal our vast experience of senior schools, together with our knowledge of the academic capability and other skills and interests of their child.
